Beautiful and historic Bath was first named as a Spa town by the Romans in 43AD – Aquae Sulis ‘the waters of Sulis’. World renowned for its stunning architecture, Bath has been designated a World Heritage Site by Unesco. The Royal Crescent, the Circus, and Pulteney Bridge feature alongside attractions such as the Roman Baths, Jane Austen Centre and the Thermae Bath Spa. Sitting in the valley floor, Bath has a relatively small footprint making it is easy to navigate on foot. Great shopping, museums and art galleries await the visitor.
Bath is situated in the county of Somerset, 100 miles west of London, and within easy driving of the London airports of Heathrow and Gatwick. As a major tourist destination there is a wide variety of accommodation in and around the city, and an equally diverse selection of restaurants, cafes and fast food outlets. For those staying overnight there is an active nightlife, with bars and clubs in the city.
It is a significant sporting hub, being the home of Bath rugby club. There are 2 universities and a number of schools and colleges. In terms of industry, the tourism and service sectors are Bath’s major employers as well as expansion in information, communication and creative technologies.
